Your Well Trained Technician at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.

Posted October 29, 2015 12:00 PM

When your vehicle has a problem or just needs some routine service, you might get a little nervous. Your vehicle's so important to your life in Mississauga, you need to get back on the road as soon as possible – with the problem fixed right the first time.

If you've ever checked into some of the technician training Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. professionals receive, you may be surprised at how much specialized knowledge and skill goes into diagnosing and repairing a modern car. For example: Today there are four cylinder engines that generate more power than the 1980s-era V-8's. I mean a new V-6 Toyota Camry could beat Sonny Crocket's Ferrari in a race to 60 mph/100 kph.

Our engines are more and more powerful and at the same time their fuel economy keeps inching up – even with steep Mississauga gas prices. They are also amazingly reliable: Kudos to the automotive engineers. But the advances come at the price of simplicity. The modern vehicles driven around Ontario are so much more complex from a mechanical standpoint that it makes your head spin – not to mention the electronics.

Some vehicles have several networked computers controlling most of the engine functions and many other vehicle operations as well. Mississauga motorists take all of this sophistication for granted, but somebody has to fix it when it breaks. It's a real challenge for Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. in Mississauga technicians to keep up, but we work hard to stay ahead of the technology. It requires a high level of commitment on the part of the technicians and the Mississauga service centers as well.

Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. technicians receive training through a combination of formal classroom training, training provided at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. by parts and equipment manufacturers, online courses and home study courses.

In addition to the expensive training, there's the financial commitment for Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. to purchase the diagnostic and repair tools.

There are many independent certifications held by the pros at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.. The ability to repair your vehicle requires a strong combination of training and resources. No one can know everything, so Mississauga auto service centers subscribe to data services, technical libraries and even online communities that can help them when they run into a difficult problem.

It's like those medical diagnosis shows on TV. Here are the symptoms – what's the diagnosis and treatment? Diagnosis is every bit as much an art as a science. At Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd., we want everything to be simple, straightforward and inexpensive – but sometimes it just isn't.

The next time you bring us your vehicle, don't worry. You're in good hands at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd..

Line Them Up: Wheel Alignment Service at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.

Posted October 23, 2015 12:00 PM

Hello Mississauga! Let's talk about alignment. One of the most important parts of preventive maintenance for your vehicle is keeping the wheels in alignment. Poor alignment causes your tires to wear unevenly, which can significantly reduce their lifespan. This means you will have to replace them more often, which can be costly for drivers in Mississauga.

It can even damage your suspension system, which is costly to repair. But even more importantly, uneven tread wear can lead to blowouts on the road, a dangerous and potentially deadly safety risk for Mississauga drivers and their passengers.

It may not take an accident or bad driving habits to “knock” your tires out of alignment. Tires can go out of alignment with just everyday Ontario driving. Mississauga road hazards, pot holes, uneven or gravel roads, and even the bumps and bounces of normal Mississauga roads and surface streets can gradually put your vehicle tires out of alignment.

So it's good auto advice to have your vehicle's alignment inspected periodically. Your vehicle's owner's manual will have recommendations on how often you should get an alignment check: usually every year or two. But if you think your vehicle tires might be out of alignment, you should bring your vehicle into Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. now.

When you bring your vehicle in for an alignment, your technician at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. will start by inspecting the steering and suspension systems. If something is broken or damaged there, it will need to be fixed in order to get good alignment of the wheels.

If all looks good in the steering and suspension departments, the vehicle will then be put on an alignment rack where an initial alignment reading is taken. The wheels can then be aligned to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. The ideal alignment for any vehicle is set by its engineers and may vary from vehicle to vehicle.

There are three types of adjustments that may have to be made to correctly align a vehicle's tires. The first is called “toe.” This refers to tires that are out of alignment because they point inward or outward at the front of the tire. Think of a person who is pigeon-toed or splay-footed, and you get the idea.

The second adjustment is the camber. This adjustment affects the angle at which the tires meet the road. Think of a solid building in contrast to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The last adjustment is the castor. This adjustment measures the angle of the tire in relation to the front axles. So, a piece of auto advice that just might be good for life as well: keep everything in alignment, and you'll be able to steer where you want to go. Drive safely.

Coolant/Antifreeze Service at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.

Posted October 20, 2015 12:00 PM

Anyone who drives a car in Mississauga knows that engines get hot when they run. But did you know that engines need to be cooled to keep running? Heat inside an engine can cause the metal parts to expand, which can seize up an engine and make it stop running. It can even ruin the entire engine! Good vehicle care requires keeping its cooling system in good condition.

A vehicle's cooling system circulates water and antifreeze (coolant) through the engine where it absorbs heat. It then flows to the radiator where the water and antifreeze are cooled by the air that flows over the radiator. Then it circulates back into the vehicle's engine to absorb more heat.

Why shouldn't Mississauga auto owners just use water? Because water boils at temperatures that are often reached inside of an engine. Steam won't cool your vehicle engine and is hard to contain within the cooling system. The antifreeze keeps the water from boiling.

So why do we call it antifreeze? Shouldn't it be antiboil? Truth is, the antifreeze performs another critical task. Water freezes in cold Ontario weather. That would spell disaster for your vehicle's engine. So antifreeze also keeps the water in your cooling system from freezing in all but the most extreme cold. Pretty neat stuff!

Taking care of your cooling system is part of good preventive maintenance for your vehicle. Mississauga area drivers should check coolant level often and regularly inspect your cooling system for leaks.

That is just good auto advice. Your vehicle's manufacturer has maintenance requirements for draining and replacing engine coolant. Consult your owner's manual or ask your friendly and knowledgeable Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. service advisor for these recommendations, as they vary widely among vehicles.

Fuel Saving Tip: Dirty Oil in Your Mississauga Vehicle

Posted October 14, 2015 12:00 PM

If you're a quart low in your vehicle, there isn't enough motor oil to lubricate your engine properly. The extra friction causes drag that reduces fuel economy while you're driving around the Mississauga area.

The same goes for dirty oil; it doesn't reduce friction properly. The result is you get to watch those numbers at your local Mississauga gas pump rolling higher and higher.

The transmission also needs the proper amount of clean fluid to do its work. When it's in need of service, the transmission drags your fuel economy down.

So keep it clean at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.  and give yourself a fighting chance.

Automotive Tips from Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.: Brake Noise

Posted October 2, 2015 12:00 PM

Your brake pads are the important parts that rub against the rotor (or disc) to slow and stop your car when driving in Mississauga. They eventually wear down.

When your pads are worn too much, they won’t stop your vehicle as well. When the friction material is worn away, metal parts of the pad are exposed and you’ll hear a squeal or grinding sound.

That’s when Mississauga drivers should replace their brake pads at Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd.. Not only will new pads restore your stopping power, but replacing them on time will prevent damage to the rotor.

If your brakes are making noise, ask your Meadowvale Auto Repair Specialists Ltd. service advisor to inspect your brakes. Addressing problems early will restore your safety and prevent expensive brake damage.
